The Acura ZDX Is Dead Just as the Federal EV Tax Credit Expires
UPDATE 9/24/25, 10:30 a.m.: A Honda spokesperson has confirmed that production of the Acura ZDX has ended. This story has been updated with a statement.
The Acura ZDX’s life has been cut very short, as the automaker has confirmed that production has ended. Acura’s first electric SUV debuted for the 2024 model year, and in light of today’s news, the ZDX will be one and done.
A Honda spokesperson shared the following statement: “To better align our product portfolio with the needs of our customers and market conditions, as well as our long-term strategic goals, we can confirm the Acura ZDX has ended production.”
The news was initially reported by Car Dealership Guy. An internal memo reportedly stated that the decision to stop building the ZDX was partially based on slower-than-expected EV adoption as well as new policies that affect EV sales and production, according to CDG. The latter involves the loss of the $7500 federal tax credit, which expires on September 30.
The ZDX, which uses a GM-developed electric platform, is built at General Motors’ Spring Hill facility in Tennessee, so it’s not subject to U.S. tariffs. Still, the federal tax credits, as well as other regional incentives and attractive lease deals, have helped Acura’s only EV model sell relatively well. The same goes for its platform-mate, the Honda Prologue. While it’s fair to wonder if the Honda also has a target on its back, a spokesperson told us that the decision to kill the ZDX will not impact the Prologue.
