Limited to just 36 cars (Hemmings), the GT350R is one of the most sought-after classic Fords. The R models came with a track-focused suspension setup, fiberglass body panels, better cooling, plexiglass windows, a full roll cage, and tipped the scales at a featherweight 2,550 lbs.
The 4.7-liter Ford V8 was tweaked to increase output to 360 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels, mated to a Borg-Warner T-10M four-speed. For its day, this was a seriously quick car, hitting 60 mph in 5.5 seconds.

Let’s take a moment to let that sink in. A sprint to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds – in 1965. It is no wonder the Shelby Cobra 427 of the mid-60s is still, for many people, the most legendary car to carry the name. This Cobra could go from zero to 100 mph and back to a standstill in 14.5 seconds too.
The engine is a 7.0-liter 16-valve V8 with a monstrous 485 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Back in the ’60s, a Shelby Cobra would have cost $7,000; nowadays, a 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C will set you back a cool $2,250,000, says Hagerty. Less is more with the Shelby GT350R. This hardcore version of the GT350 has many of the creature comforts removed, including air conditioning, a rear seat, a stereo system, floor mats, and a rearview camera, in a bid to reduce weight. The ‘R’ also comes fitted with carbon fiber wheels that reduce the weight by 60 lbs and a carbon fiber wing for increased downforce.
The engine is the same 5.2-liter V8, but as a result of the weight savings, the sprint to 60 mph over the standard GT350 is reduced to 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 172 mph. The 2020 GT350R can trace its lineage back to the ’60s original.

In 1993, Shelby celebrated his 70th birthday by dreaming up a brand-new sports car that would carry his name. The Shelby Series 1 was unveiled at the 1997 Los Angeles Auto Show as a modern-day version of the original Shelby AC Cobra.
The original V8-powered Shelby Series 1 was due to have a total weight of 2,650 lbs and 500 horsepower, says Hagerty, but instead ended up tipping the scales at 3,000 lbs, reaching 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. In 2000, the Vortec supercharged version of the Shelby 1 arrived with 450 horsepower, enough to propel it to 60 mph in 3.71 seconds and demolish a quarter mile in 12.4 seconds at 120.03 mph (Hagerty).

It’s a common moan when we go on holiday – the generic rental car that we are allotted has as much power as a lawnmower. SIXT decided to fix this problem by commissioning a line of exclusive supercharged 2019 Shelby GTs. The car – called the Shelby GT-S – is based on the Ford Mustang fastback but is finished in SIXT’s distinctive orange brand color.

This Shelby GT500 may have arrived way back in 2013, but that doesn’t mean it’s still not one of the company’s fastest cars. The 2013 Shelby GT500’s 5.8-liter V8 aluminum-block engine produces 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque, making it the highest-horsepower engine ever produced in North America at the time.
The Mustang featured a new supercharger, new cross-drilled blocks and heads, updated camshaft profiles, and a new carbon fiber driveshaft, to name but a few of the many upgrades. The GT500 of 2013 hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Carroll Shelby was been better known for hot Mustangs and Cobras, so it may come as some surprise that the fast vehicle from the company isn’t either of those – it’s not even a car.
The Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport is available with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that pumps out 770 horsepower. To keep all that extra power reigned in, this very special F-150 also comes with Shelby-specific lowered suspension, custom wheels, and a new brake system. On the outside, there is a meaner and more aero look, including a larger and lower front bumper, a lower front splitter, and a functional ram air hood. During tests, the company found it would hit 60 mph in just 3.45 seconds and reach 100 mph in 8.3 seconds.

The name, which often means that somewhere is engulfed in smoke, is spot on for the fastest and meanest Shelby creation ever. The GT500 CODE RED features a handbuilt, twin-turbocharged V8 churning out up to 1,300 horsepower and 1,000 foot pounds of torque. Wild burnouts are optional. Along with this new powertrain, each CODE RED Mustang receives suspension, cooling, and aesthetic upgrades. Production is strictly limited to 10 GT500s from each of the 2020 to 2022 production years, meaning just 30 units total. The car’s quarter mile is 8.39 seconds and the GT500 CODE RED is estimated to hit 60 mph in less than 3.0 seconds.
