The Lamborghini Manifesto Is a Commitment to Dramatic Design

Lamborghini seems to be sticking with what it knows best: sharp, wedge-shaped bodies, Y-shaped lighting motifs, and an unabashed persona.

Lamborghini may have just launched an all-new flagship supercar, the plug-in hybrid Revuelto, for the 2024 model year and debuted the V-8-powered follow-up to the wildly successful V-10-engined Huracán, the Temerario, but the Italian automaker isn’t done evolving just yet. Over the weekend, Lamborghini design director Mitja Borkert unveiled a new concept car, dubbed the Manifesto, that serves as a beacon for the brand’s design language.

Borkert didn’t provide many details about the concept, which is simply intended as a styling exercise. He referred to it as a “visionary sculpture” to display the “potential future of our unique Design DNA.” While the Manifesto looks to the future, it certainly shares some cues with the limited-production Fenomeno, revealed in August, not least the searing yellow paint.

The Manifesto features the classic Lamborghini look, with a sleek, mid-engined, wedge-shaped body full of sharp lines and dramatic creases. The headlights show that Lamborghini is committed to its Y-shaped motif, with the main lighting unit sitting between the fork of the Y and an angled line cutting inwards above like a sort of angry eyebrow. The lower front fascia is blacked out and features large air intakes, but the side is curiously absent of the sort of vents that might normally feed cool air to a high-performance engine.

At the rear, the Y motif appears again in the thin, delicate taillights, linked by a dark indentation that spans the width of the Manifesto and holds a Lamborghini badge. A deep diffuser sits below to help provide downforce—the concept eschews a rear wing—and nearly the entirety of the rear tires are exposed when the car is viewed from behind. A series of vents runs alongside a center spine behind the cabin, suggesting the presence of some sort of engine in the belly of the Manifesto. If you count, there are 12 slots, perhaps indicating that Lamborghini is committed to the V-12 engine for the future.

The Manifesto also serves as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Centro Stile Lamborghini, the brand’s in-house design center, which has produced iconic modern Lambos such as the Aventador and Huracán. If this new visionary concept is any indication, Lamborghini is ready to cook up several more supercar hits inside the walls of Centro Stile.
